Obituary for John Reader
John William Reader, age 85, of Bourbonais, IL quietly slipped out of this world and left his pain behind as he entered his Heavenly Home on December 9, 2015. John was born October 7, 1930 in Olivet, IL to George and Gertrude Reader. He married Lois E. Fullen on June 25, 1954. They had a loving marriage blessed by God. She survives. John moved from Georgetown in 1952 to work at Armstrong World Industries in Kankakee, IL and was among some of the earliest employees hired when they opened the Kankakee plant. He worked there until retiring in 1992. John was a long time member of the Kankakee Westbrook Church of the Nazarene where he served on the board, was chairman of the Trustees for several years, and enjoyed taking care of the church and the grounds. John also enjoyed woodworking, making puzzles, welding, and metal crafts. He enjoyed HAM Radio and talking with friends around the world through that media. He had many friends via the internet. John is also survived by a brother, Daniel (Verna) Reader of Naples, FL; two sisters-in-law: Delores Reader of Okemos, MI and Mary Lou Reader of Chrisman, IL; an “adopted” sister: Karen Goodman and her family; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Paul and James. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Westbrook Church of the Nazarene in Kankakee, IL. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. A second funeral service will be held on Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Chrisman Church of the Nazarene at 2:00 p.m., with visitation held for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Chrisman, IL. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Chrisman Church of the Nazarene for the Rev. George Reader Scholarship fund.
