Obituary for John David Armstrong
John David Armstrong, age 70, of Charleston, IL, died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Mattoon. John was born July 27, 1941 in Redmon, IL to John David and Idella Wilma (Fulwider) Armstrong. He served four years in the United States Navy, and was formerly employed by Raytheon Corporation and Telex as a computer technician. John was passionate about golf and after his retirement worked as an assistant pro at Stonebridge Golf Course in Memphis, TN and also taught golf lessons. He was a member of the Tennessee PGA and the American Legion in Springville, TN. He is survived by a brother, Steve (Katie) Armstrong of Charleston, IL; a niece, Elizabeth Vorass of Milwaukee, WI; and a nephew, Andrew Armstrong of Paris, France. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Armstrong. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held in Embarrass Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.
