Joe Lee Clapp, age 74, of Hindsboro, died Monday, May 28, 2012 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon. Joe was born July 17, 1937 in rural Hindsboro, IL to Roy Preston and Maude Jeanette (Minor) Clapp. He married Nancy Jo Covert on June 10, 1956; she survives. He is also survived by two sons, Mark (Amanda) Clapp of Oakland, IL and Michael Clapp of Hindsboro, IL; three daughters, Leslie (Larry) Durham of Chehalis, WA, Lindsay “Dee” (Larry) Karnes of Manito, IL and LeeAnne Clapp of Hindsboro, IL; a brother, Robert (Frieda) Clapp of Newman, IL; two sisters, Virginia Motley of Kansas, IL and Mary Pankey of Chrisman, IL; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Joe was a lifelong resident of Hindsboro, and formerly served as a volunteer firefighter for the Hindsboro Fire Department. He previously worked as a pressman at R.R. Donnelley. He also farmed for several years and worked at Oakland High School as a janitor for fourteen years. He enjoyed watching the Cubs, the Bears and the Illini. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking projects, tractor pulls, and tinkering in the garage. He dearly loved his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them participate in sports. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at VanVoorhis Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Hindsboro Civic Center, the Douglas County Humane Society or the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
