James Woodrome Carter, age 86, of Charleston, IL and formerly of Hindsboro, IL, died Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Heritage Woods.
Jim was born June 20, 1936, in Blue Mountain, MS to James W. And Viola Blanche (Woodrome) Carter. He married Carol Sue Cler on April 16, 1955, in Villa Grove, IL; she survives.
He is also survived by six children: Christopher Carter of Villa Grove, IL, Melissa (Binky) Kuhajda of Ooltewah, TN, James M. (Vicki) Carter of Camargo, IL, Julie Carter of Salem, IL, Diann (Charles) Crossman of Savoy, IL, and Audrey (Aaron) Gullion of Charleston, IL; a brother: John (Rita) Carter of Barnhart, MO; a sister: Violet Jean Clarke of Nashville, TN; a sister-in-law: Michelle Carter of Tucson, AZ; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Stephen Carter; a brother: Jackie Carter; a sister: Linda Carter; and a grandchild.
Jim was a member of Victory Church in Camargo, IL, where he enjoyed playing in the praise band and participating in the Keenagers group. He also volunteered as a bell ringer and trumpet player for the Salvation Army. Prior to his retirement, he worked in the propane fuel industry for many years and had many dedicated customers.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Victory Church.
