Obituary for James Franklin Bonwell
Dr. James Franklin Bonwell, O.D., age 99 of Charleston, IL, passed from this life to his heavenly home on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Dr. Bonwell was born October 22, 1912 on a farm near Scottland, IL to James Robert and Ota Delilah (Jennings) Bonwell. He married Imogene Turner on December 9, 1948. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII and practiced optometry for many years in Hoopeston, Danville and Charleston. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston. He enjoyed power walking, travel and wintering in Florida. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Imogene Bonwell of Charleston, IL; a daughter, Mary Jane (Jerry) Jackson of Pleasant Plains, IL; a son, John Allen (Mary Ellen) Bonwell of Minier, IL; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James Riley Bonwell; his parents, two brothers and six sisters. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Friends Chapel Church in Scottland, IL. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Friends Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church.
