Obituary for James Edward Rhodes
James “Jim” Edward Rhodes, 52, of Charleston, died Saturday (Sept. 19, 2009) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Charleston. His funeral will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at the Standard Funeral Home in Oakland. Rev. Scott Sims will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Oakland. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1-7 PM with the family present from 5-7 PM at the Standard Funeral Home in Oakland. He was born on July 28, 1957 in Champaign. His parents were Roger Lee and Phyllis Jane (Goode) Rhodes. He married Angela Butler. Survivors include a daughter, Zoey Rhodes; a son, Noah Rhodes, both of Charleston; a sister, Penny (Doug) Krabel of Oakland; 15 nieces and nephews and his faithful companion german shepherd, Raider. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Robin Rhodes. He graduated high school in Fort Knox, Kentucky. In his adolescent years he was very active with the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed traveling the world with his grandparents, riding his Harley, good food, fine wine and was an avid music fan, having owned a broad and extensive music collection. Carpentry was a favorite hobby leading him to a career with Home Construction of Mattoon. He was a member of Salisbury Christian Church in Charleston. Memorials may be directed to the family for a fund being established for his children’s education fund. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.standardfuneralhome.com.
