Obituary for Jack E. Wendel

Jack Edward Wendel, age 79, of Oakland, IL, passed away at his home on Friday, August 16, 2024.

Jack was born September 6, 1944, in Tuscola, Il, to Percy Martin and Lenora Pearl (Stark) Wendel. He married Deloris Fae Lewis on January 21, 1962, at the Ashmore Presbyterian Church; she survives.

He is also survived by three daughters: Laurie Bodle, Lisa McCollum (Brad), and Jada Houk (Andy), all of Oakland, IL; a brother: Larry Wendel of California; a sister: Sharon Wendel of Decatur, IL; nine grandchildren: Jami Damron (Brian), Jori Downey (Brent), Tyler Bodle (Hilary), Chris Silva, Tanner Bodle, Benjamin Houk (Vanessa), Anna Houk, Isabel Smith (Mason), and Levi Houk; six great-grandchildren: Jackson, Dylan, and Harley Damron, Brayden Downey, and Aiden and Asher Bodle; and an adopted daughter: Diane Hearn of Oakland, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law: Tim Bodle.

Jack was a lifelong resident of Oakland, a fifty-year member of the Oakland Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Oakland Order of the Eastern Star. He was previously employed as an owner operator/truck driver and enjoyed woodworking, making jewelry, and cooking. He loved music, especially Pink Floyd, and he loved spending time with his family.

Per Jack’s request, no services will be scheduled at this time, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. For those who wish, memorials in Jack’s honor may be made to Oakland Landmarks/Rutherford House.
