Obituary for Irene Voyles Harris
Irene Voyles Harris died June 9, 2012 at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman, IL. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday with nieces and nephews in attendance. Irene was born May 25, 1922 in Ridge Farm, IL, the daughter of Charles Brian and Lillie Mae Hays Voyles. She graduated from Ridge Farm High School. Irene was married to Lawrence David Harris in 1944 and after WW II, settled in Joplin Missouri where they owned a grocery store for several years. Irene also worked as bookkeeper for a window company in Joplin. Later, she trained for her CNA license and worked at St John’s Hospital for many years until retirement in 1988. She had wonderful neighbors in Joplin and enjoyed shopping for antiques, growing flowers and feeding hummingbirds. She relocated to Ridge Farm in 2004. Irene was preceded by an infant daughter; her husband, L.D. Harris; her parents; a brother Russell Voyles; and three sisters: Louise Fifield, Nadene Nardoni, and Vivian Collom. She is survived by one sister, Lorraine Mazzochi of Ocala, FL, a brother in law, Hank Nardoni of Danville; a sister in law, Vivian Voyles of Chrisman; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held in Joplin, Missouri with Parker Mortuary and Krabel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Meadows Christian Village.
