Obituary for Helen Pauline Hearn
Helen Pauline (Smittkamp) Hearn, age 88, of Oakland, completed her journey in this life on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Gowin Parc in Mattoon, IL. Mrs. Hearn was born July 28, 1921 in rural Paris, IL to Frederick and Fern (Walls) Smittkamp. She married Joseph Hearn on May 10, 1947 at Paris, IL. She was a teacher for many years and also belonged to many associations and organizations for educators, including OEA, IEA, NEA and Retired Teachers. She was also a member of the Oakland Christian Church, the BB Club, Eastern Star, Home Extention and BCL. She enjoyed walking, reading, sports, gardening, crafts and camping. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Kay (Joe) Hood of Pesotum, IL and Diane Hearn of Oakland, IL; two sons, William (Pat) Hearn of Glenn Ellyn, IL and Mike (Nancy) Hearn of Garden Prairie, IL; a special niece, Sue (Bill) Duzan of Oakland; one brother, Lester (Elnora) Smittkamp of Paris, IL; eight grandchildren, Guthrie Hood, Jacob Hood, Laura Hearn, Michael (Erica) Hearn, Beth (Sean) O’Reilly, Mary Kate (John) Stanfield, Ali Hearn and Luke Hearn; and two great grandchildren, Maggie and Patrick O’Reilly. She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. In accordance with Mrs. Hearn’s wishes, her body will be cremated after services with private interment to be held at a later date.
