Obituary for Hazel Maxine Duzan
Hazel Maxine Duzan, 83, of Oakland passed away at 5:45 PM Thursday (Sept. 24, 2009) at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. Her funeral will be held at 10 AM Monday at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland. Pastor Jim Nash will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, north of Kansas. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM Sunday at the Standard Funeral Home in Oakland with the family present from 5-7 PM. She was born May 26, 1926 in Coles County to Adren and Ruby Sophia (McGrew) Swinford. She married Marvin Wayne Duzan on August 15, 1942 in Oakland. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1985. She is survived by children: M. Sue Campbell (Bob) of Oakland, Linda M. Smith of Westfield, Stan E. Duzan (Judy) of Hindsboro, Ray L. Duzan (Rosie) of Casey and Carol A. Coffman (Rick) of Oakland; 13 grandchildren: Brent W. Campbell (Krista), Kevin D. Campbell (Jennifer), Tiffany S. Acton (Darrin), Amber Powers (Donny), Dena Woods (Brian), Celina McClain (David), Justin Smith (Kristyn), Stacy Duzan (Melissa), Corey Duzan (Katie), Kelly Duzan (Jill Coy), Misty Reinhart (Aaron), Chris Duzan (Edie) and Judd Coffman (Stormie); 23 great and 2 great great grandchildren; 5 brothers: Owen Swinford of Texas, Dale Swinford (Barb) of Sidney, Jim Swinford (Betty) of Marshall, Aaron Swinford (Rose) of Nashville, IL and Don Swinford (Marilyn) of Herrin and one sister, Edna Pearl Huston of Paris. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Timothy and Ronnie Duzan and a sister, Eula Katherine Nichols. She was educated in country schools and attended Oakland High School. She worked in food service at Eastern Illinois University from where she retired. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and was a member of Oakland Christian Church where she was very active in all of their functions. She was also a very active member of the Oakland Senior Center where she served as Secretary/Treasurer and the Nifty 50 Club through Citizens Bank. She was a servant to many having volunteered taking care of neighbors and the community. She was very fond of all of her grandchildren, great and great grandchildren. She was a excellent cook having been known for her pies, noodles and homemade rolls. Memorials may be directed to the Oakland Christian Church or the Oakland Senior Center.
