Obituary for Harold James Carwell
Harold James Carwell, age 85, of Oakland, IL passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Newman Rehabilitation & Health Care.
Harold was born on September 3, 1930 in Mattoon, IL to James and Lola (Walker) Carwell. He married Lucille (Bartimus) Carwell on March 12, 1955. He was self-employed in Lawn Care & Maintenance and he enjoyed farming. Harold served during the Korean War as a Marine and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #219 of Oakland, the Oakland Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, Oakland V.F.W. Post #3637, the Coles County Farm Bureau and Antioch Seperate Baptist Church.
He is survived by a sister, Virginia Carwell of Georgetown, TX, several nephews and a friend and devoted caregiver, Pamela Kanitz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, and a brother.
Visitation will be on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Janesville Cemetery with military honors provided by the Oakland V.F.W Post #3637. Memorials can be made to Oakland Community Unit #5 Carwell Scholarship Fund.
