Harold Eugene Maples, age 86, of Oakland, IL, died May 9, 2026, at his home surrounded by family.
Harold was born May 20, 1939, in Oakland, IL, to William Joseph and Lawrence Hazel (Harmon) Maples. He married Nancy Jo Durbin; she preceded him in death.
He is survived by one daughter: Regina Hays; one son: William Maples Sr.: four grandchildren: Mark Maples, Melinda Gano, Melissa (Katie) Harris and William Maples Jr.; 3 great grandchildren: Jason Gano, Olivia Long and Luke Gano. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; a son Michael J. Maples Sr.; and one grandson: Michael J. Maples Jr.
Harold retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service. He also drove a school bus for the Oakland Community School District for many years.
Cremation rites were accorded and the family will hold a service at a later date. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the family in care of Regina Hays.
