Obituary for Gordon Carl Baker
Gordon Carl Baker, age 85, of Chrisman, died Tuesday, April 14, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
A private graveside service was held in Chrisman on Saturday, April 18. A public memorial service will be held at Woodland Cemetery on May 23, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. (CST) to honor and reminisce Gordon’s life.
Gordon was born on October 25, 1929, to Carl and Dora (Gordon) Baker. He married Harriet Anne Jenkins on June 25, 1950. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2010.
He is survived by one son, Tom (Jana) Baker, of Elk Grove Village, Illinois; one daughter, Deborah (Terry) Furnish, of Dana, Indiana; five grandchildren: Kellie (Tony) Baroni, of Riverview, Florida; Alison (Mark) Dunn, of Brandon, Florida; Lindsy (Steven) Hood, of Bothell, Washington; Ryan Baker, of Ridgecrest, California; Holly Baker of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and five great-grandchildren: Ella Baroni, Trey Baroni, Chelsea Hood, Ada Dunn, and Edie Dunn. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
Gordon graduated from Chrisman High School in 1947. He served honorably in the armed forces during the Korean Conflict, and was awarded the Bronze Service Star and a purple heart. Gordon lived and farmed in the Chrisman area all his life. He enjoyed family camping, fishing, and snowmobiling.
