Obituary for Gloria Sparks Sampson
Gloria Jean (Sparks) Sampson, age 97, of Oakland, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL.
Gloria was born December 24, 1924, in Ashmore, IL, to John Franklin and Hazel Fern (Bulla) Sparks. She married Robert Lee Easton on December 24, 1943. They divorced, and she later married Richard Earl Sampson on September 14, 1975, who preceded her in death in 2015.
She is survived by two children: Roger (Judy) Easton of Fruitland Park, FL and Toni (Dave) Rhylander of Collierville, TN; six grandchildren: Robin (Todd) McNeely, Julie (Kerry) Lynch, Ryan Easton, Clayton Rhylander, Chase (Meredith) Rhylander, and Carson Rhylander; four great-grandchildren: Ashley, Michel, Jared, and Caleb; and one great-great-grandson, Memphis. She was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Gloria was a member of the Oakland Christian Church and the Oakland Order of the Eastern Star. She was employed as manager at the Montgomery Ward catalog store in Charleston. She later worked as a teller at the Oakland National Bank and enjoyed taking trips with the ONB Nifty Fifty Club.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at noon. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland Christian Church.
