Gerald William Collett, Sr., age 79, of Chrisman, IL passed away Monday, October 3, 2022, at his home.
Gerry Sr. was born October 13, 1942, in Piedmont, Oklahoma at the home of his aunt Nell, to George William Collett, Jr. and Clara Geraldine (DeBoard) Collett. He is survived by Katharine Elizabeth (Stratford) Collett, whom he married on August 29, 1964, at the Pittsburg Free Methodist Church in Illinois.
He is also survived by three siblings, John (Marilyn) Collett, Dwain (Carol) Collett, and Coleta (John) Steers, two children, Gerry, Jr. (Cheryl) Collett of Harrodsburg, KY and Soni (Tito) Matias of Chicago, IL, and grandchildren & great grandchildren Katie Matias & Gatlin, Jackey (Steve) Murillo & Ezekiel, Joelle (Cody) Jones & Cora, Victoria (Scott) Grimes, Christina Collett, Andrea Collett, and Pablo Matias as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Gerry was a math teacher for many years and even in retirement enjoyed tutoring and substitute teaching in the school system. He also had his own repair business in which he worked on houses and appliances. He used his talents to minister to many in the community and loved visiting his children when they had a project for him to work on. He was currently attending Chrisman Christian Church, where he helped with the worship team and the youth group.
He enjoyed fishing, often taking friends and relatives out on his boat. He loved tending his garden and fruit trees, canning, freezing, and making jelly. He loved making candy and popcorn balls for the grandchildren at Christmas.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 7, 2022, at 11:00 AM CDT at the Chrisman Christian Church in Chrisman, IL. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM CDT. In leu of flowers, donations can be made to Chrisman Christian Church or Mt. Carmel School, Jackson, KY.
