Obituary for Gary Michael Baldwin
Gary Michael “Mike” Baldwin, age 65 of Chrisman, IL, joined loved ones in Heaven at 7:34 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016.
Mike was born January 7, 1951, the eldest son of John Junior Baldwin and Velva Irene Gill Baldwin. On January 6, 1973 he married the love of his life, Betty Joan Tingley. Together they built a life based on love and respect, and raised four children. Mike was a faithful husband and devoted father.
He obtained his Associate Degree in Applied Sciences with a concentration in electronics from Danville Area Community College in May of 1993. Mike had many hobbies that he enjoyed very much. Among them were hunting, gardening, and woodcarving. He created beautiful canes and walking sticks carved from local hardwoods. He also enjoyed playing acoustic guitar and singing with his rich and deep baritone voice. However, his favorite pastime and greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 43 years: Betty Baldwin; his daughter: Alicia (Phillip) Baldwin-Evans of Paris, IL; three sons: Lance Baldwin of Chrisman, IL, Sean Baldwin (Katie Anderson) of Paris, IL; and Brett (Andrea) Baldwin of Martinsville, IL; and eight grandchildren: Samantha, Hannah, Kendrew, Lillian, Allison, Abigail, Presley and Ayia. Also surviving are a sister: Linda Baldwin and two brothers: James (Cheryl) Baldwin and David Baldwin, along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents: Roy and Esther Gill and John and Exia Baldwin; a brother: Lawrence Baldwin; and two grandsons: Gunner and John Michael.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Chrisman Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with visitation also held for one hour prior to the service. Pastor Corey Swinderman will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery. For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation to support the search for a cure of chronic kidney disease, and encourages friends to join the National Donor Registry.
