Everett Lee “Waby” Houchin, age 77 of Oakland, Illinois went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Presence Medical Center in Urbana, Illinois. He was born on September 27, 1936 in Kansas, Illinois to Howard Clinton and Ressie Mae (Wilson) Houchin. He married Sharon Lee Bales on July 5, 1964 at the Oakland Presbyterian Church. He was a lifelong resident of Kansas and Oakland, working as a yard foreman for Sturdi-Built and in the agricultural industry. He enjoyed dancing, racing, camping and tinkering. He was an avid fan of the Fighting Illini and loved watching his grandchildren play sports. He proudly served our country in the Army stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharon; two daughters: Teresa Chambers of Oakland and Michelle Morgan of Charleston; one brother, James Houchin of Libertyville, IN, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one great-grandson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Military rites will be given at the graveside by Oakland VFW #3637 and Kansas American Legion Post # 539. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Oakland Christian Church.
