Euvonia “Vonnie” Louise Balka, age 78 of Charleston, died Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Vonnie was born February 11, 1933 in Hutton Township, IL to Richard and Juanita (Bridwell) Brown. She married Glen Martin on September 29, 1952 in Neoga, IL. She later married Alex Balka, who preceded her in death. She was previously employed as a seamstress for Kern’s Manufacturing. She enjoyed animals, watching television and socializing with friends and family. She is survived by two daughters, Debra Carrie of southern Illinois and Jane (Dennis) Richey of Ashmore; three brothers, Doug Brown of Belleville, MI, Melvin (Pat) Brown of Belvidere, IL and Darrell Brown of Oakland, IL; four sisters, Darlene Henkes of Brigantine, NJ, Velma (Frank) Crawford of Caledonia, IL, Janice Apple of Oakland, IL and Beverly (Gary) Farthing of Charleston, IL; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters. No public services are scheduled. Krabel Funeral Home of Oakland, IL is handling arrangements for the family.
