Obituary for Elizabeth Marie (Grover) Martin
Elizabeth “Betty” Marie (Grover) Martin went home to be the Lord on Saturday, December 19, 2020. Elizabeth was born September 17, 1933 to Wesley and Olive May (Rigdon) Grover. She married Stanley W. Martin on September 28, 1950 and they enjoyed 68 wonderful years together. Elizabeth was a busy mother of six children. She was a great cook and an avid provider, canning all the garden food she and Stanley planted and cared for. She nursed, cloth diapered, used a wringer washer, and hung all laundry on the clothesline to dry for all six children. Elizabeth taught through example. She was kind-heartedm very humble, hardworking, and you never heard her yell or swear. Elizabeth loved God and was happiest when she sang in the choir at Chrisman Christian Church, where she was a member. She participated in helping with Bible school and special dinners at church, as well as giving and receiving cards through the card ministry. Elizabeth worked at General Electric for 25 years and created a lifelong friend, Arlene Nichols. Elizabeth’s favorite saying was “One day at a time”, and she truly lived by that. God only knows how many crowns Elizabeth will receive in Heaven! Elizabeth resided at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living Haven Alzheimer’s Unit since 2014. She is survived by her six children: Sharon Cunningham of Paris, IL; Brenda (Mark) Moore of Springfield, IL; Gary (Jane) Martin of Paris, IL; Larry (Pam) Martin of Paris, IL; Sara (TIM) Henn of Paris, IL; Debra (Mike) Sullivan of Charleston, IL; fourteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Elizabeth will be joining her parents, husband, and in-laws, Glen and Mary Martin, whom she adored, in Heaven. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, private family services will be held at Chrisman Christian Church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Burial will immediately follow at Franklin Cemetery, open for friends to attend. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Pleasant Meadows Senior Living Activity Fund or to Chrisman Christian Church.
