Obituary for Edgar Bell
Edgar Asa Bell, age 96, of Brocton, IL, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Paris Community Hospital.
Eddie was born in Ridgeway, IL on March 6, 1919 to Asa and Auda (Cox) Bell. He married Ethel Belle Morris on January 19, 1943 in Denver, CO. He was a resident of Brocton since he and his wife opened the Bell Hardware store in 1952. Later, he was a union tradesman, worked in the Pittsburgh steel mills, and supervised 35 newspaper carriers. People have been known to say of him that, “he could sell anything and fix the rest.”
Eddie enjoyed extensive traveling with his family, reading, walking, and could identify the make and model of most cars by the trim and detail. He was a Mason for 71 years, and reached the level of Master Mason. He was the eternal optimist, was always positive and upbeat, and refused to participate in any gossip. He was a magnificent Christian role model for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Eddie is survived by his three children: Chuck (Gloria McDaniel) Bell of Scottsdale, AZ, Pat (Terry) Weber of Tallahassee, FL and Pastor Larry (Pam Kruszuski) Bell of Mahomet, IL; five grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ethel Morris Bell, and a grandson: Travis Bell.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Brocton Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to EPIC Ministries, PO Box 6622, Champaign, IL 61826.
