Obituary for Dr. James Ralph Reader
James R. Reader, D.D.S., age 79, of Chrisman, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital.
James was born on February 13, 1935 in Rantoul, IL to Rev. George H.D. Reader and Gertrude Sill Reader. He married Mary Lou Thompson on December 18, 1955 in Newcomerstown, Ohio. He is survived by his wife; a son Mark (Gina) Reader, and daughters Miriam Garrett and Michelle Webb; and grandchildren Andrea and Jordan Reader, and Cale and Brett Garrett. He is also survived by his father, and two brothers, John (Lois) Reader, and Daniel (Verna) Reader. He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother,Paul Reader.
James loved his family, enjoyed cutting wood and plowing snow. He also enjoyed stained glass work and wood working. He loved giving of himself to others which included several mission trips overseas.
He served on the General Board of the Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City and was a trustee of Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, IL for many years. He also served on the Church of the Nazarene Illinois District Advisory Board. He was a member of the board of the Olivet Holiness Association, a longtime board member of the Chrisman Nazarene Church, and he served on the Woodland Cemetery board in Chrisman. A graduate of U of I Dental School in Chicago, James was a lifetime member of the Illinois Dental Association.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Chrisman Church of the Nazarene. The funeral service will also be held at the church on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chrisman Church of the Nazarene. Online condolences and service information are available at www.krabelfuneralhome.com.
