Obituary for Dorothy I. Drake
Dorothy I. Drake of Rockford formerly of Roscoe and Oakland, Illinois passed from this life to eternal life on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at age 100. Dorothy was born on December 1, 1911 in Oakland, Illinois the daughter of Charles Clement Garrison and Mabel (Hudson) Garrison. She was the youngest of six children. Dorothy was a registered nurse who graduated from Ravenswood Hospital in Chicago. 25 years of her nursing career were spent as a supervisor in the Veterans Administration system. She retired in 1972 from Bay Pines VA Hospital in Florida after having worked for many years at Fitzsimmons VA Hospital in Denver. Dorothy was an active and faithful member of Hope Ev. Free Church in Roscoe where she was a member of a woman's circle and also a part of the Senior Saints She was a very friendly, caring person with a positive attitude and a deep faith. She was dearly loved by her family and friends. She had lived at the Wesley Willows Retirement Complex since 2003 where she made many friends with the other residents and with the caring staff. She will be missed by many people whose lives she has affected through her long life. Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Carson Minor and her second husband, Charles Drake, her four brothers, Harry, Everett, Lloyd and Clarence Garrison and her sister Mary Trieger. She also was predeased by her step son , David Drake. Left to mourn her passing are her four nieces, Mary (Duane) Heren,of Morris, Betty (Charles) Steinke of Sterling, Jane Landini of Mt. Prospect and Faith (Allen) Toole of Cleveland, South Carolina. She is also survived by her step daughter in law, Anita Drake of Roscoe, many other relatives and a host of friends. Two funeral services are planned. The first one will be at the Johns Chapel at Wesley Willows on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. preceded by visitation at 1:00 p.m. The second service will be at the Oakland Christian Church, Oakland, Illinois on Saturday, April 28 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour before the service. The interment will be at the Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hope Ev. Free Church of Roscoe, The Oakland Christian Church, Wesley Willows or the charity of choice . The family of Dorothy Drake is grateful for the compassionate, loving care of the staff at Wesley Willows and especially to those who provided for her at the Health Center of Wesley Willows where she spent the last months of her long, fruitful life.
