She married Leon Clement Engle in May of 1947 and two children were born to that union. Leon preceded her in death in 1965, and she later married Joseph Kidgell, who also preceded her in death. Doris is survived by her daughter: Jeanette (Kevin) Levellie of Paris, IL; seven grandchildren, including Esther “Marie” Adams of Paris, IL and Ron Levellie of Charleston, IL; a brother: Dwayne (Joyce) Tomson of Grass Valley, CA, and five great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Paul Engle, and a sister, Lois Pullen. Doris was an enthusiastic believer in Jesus Christ and very involved in the Gideons Auxiliary, traveling all over the U.S. to distribute Bibles. She and her husband, Joe, loved to tell stories about people being born again as a result of reading the Bible. In her late teens, Doris worked as a streetcar conductor in Los Angeles. She later worked as the secretary for her husband’s elevator business. Doris moved from California to Paris, IL in 2014 and was a member of the Nevins Christian Church and belonged to the Nevins Circle of Faith. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, sending greeting cards, watching Jeopardy, and playing cards. The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Friday, June 10 at 5 p.m. at Nevins Christian Church; visitation from 4:00 – 4:55 p.m. private services at a later date. For those who wish, memorials in Doris’ honor may be made to Gideons International or Nevins Christian Church.
