Obituary for Donald Gene Henry
Donald Gene Henry went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, December 26, 2014 at 10:45 p.m. at Carle Hospital in Urbana, IL. He is survived by his wife, Jorja Honn Henry, three sons, David (Sally) Henry, Mark (Alison) Henry, Daniel (Laura) Henry, seven grandchildren, Rachel (Zack) Mathenia, Sarah (Chris) Achorn, John (Christina) Henry, Abby (Garrett) Wassell, Morgan (Damon) Ledbetter, Holly Henry, Patrick Henry, one step-grandson, Jack Sanders, and two great grandchildren, Sophia Mathenia and Andrew Henry.
Donald Gene was born in Douglas County on November 5, 1932 to Bert and Opal (Tate) Henry. He is survived by his sister, Joan Henry Bell and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Billy Henry.
Gene and Jorja were married in Oakland, Illinois on September 3, 1952 and spent 62 wonderful years of marriage together.
Gene was employed in construction and then went to work in the grain bin business at Triple H in Oakland, Illinois. He was later employed for the Illinois Department of Agriculture before retiring. Upon retiring he enjoyed helping his son, Mark in farming.
Gene was the township clerk for East Oakland Township for 27 years and was on the Board of Regional School trustees for 28 years. Gene was a school board member for the Oakland School District as well as the past president of the Lions Club. He was a member of the Oakland Chamber of Commerce. Gene was an Elder at the Oakland Christian Church as well as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Gene was a loving father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He shared his love of Christ, country and family with everyone around him. He has left an incredible legacy and he will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland Christian Church.
