Donald F. Luth, age 82 of Newman, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Don was born December 3, 1932 in Newman, IL to Oswald Henry and Frieda (Frenz) Luth. He married Esther Mae Craig on August 12, 1953 in Reno, NV. Don was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. After his military service, he returned to Newman and farmed for over 55 years. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Broadlands, IL and participated in the Men’s Club. He also was a member of the Newman American Legion Post #201, where he served as past Post Adjutant, and the Elks Lodge in Savoy. He enjoyed golfing at the Tri-City Country Club, and he loved playing cards and mowing his lawn. Don dearly loved his family, and especially adored his granddaughters.
He is survived by a son: Mike (Jeri) Luth of Newman, IL; a sister: Dorothy (Bob) Rothermel of St. Joseph, IL; and two granddaughters: Katlyn (Aaron) Masters of Leroy, IL and Andi Mae Luth of Newman, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Broadlands, IL. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, with military honors provided by Newman American Legion # 201. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or to the Newman Regional Library in care of the funeral home.
