Obituary for Darlene Campbell
Darlene Campbell, age 75, of Oakland, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 18th, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Darlene was born April 19th, 1944 in Paris, IL to James Porter and Marjorie (Findley) Dennison. She married James Gilbert Campbell on November 16, 1962, and they enjoyed 57 wonderful years together. Darlene was a member of First Christian Church in Champaign, IL. She previously worked as a bookkeeper for Moore Business Forms, Oakland High School, and Oakland Farm Supply. But Darlene was a true “homebody” and her favorite job was being a homemaker and taking care of her family. Darlene greatly enjoyed decorating and caring for her yard and sharing its beauty with her friends and community. She loved sitting on the back patio watching high school kids take homecoming and prom pictures on the bridge. The circle in the front on Reel Street always had Darlene’s personal touch. She gave a tour of her favorite landscaping features during a segment that appeared on Channel 3’s Our Town: Oakland in August 2018. One of the causes dear to Darlene’s heart was sponsoring children through Compassion International, and she and Jim sponsored numerous children in the program from around the world. Next year will mark 40 years since they started their sponsorship. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister-in-law: Ellen Dennison. She is survived by her husband, their two children: Scot (Kelly) Campbell of Shelbyville, IL; Quint (Amy) Campbell of Champaign, IL; one sister: Karen (Harold) Marrs of Oakland, IL; one brother: James F. Dennison of Effingham, IL; seven grandchildren: Drew (Haley) Campbell of Mattoon, IL; Justin Campbell of Charleston, IL; Russ (Monica) Tomblin of Shelbyville, IL; Parker Campbell of Champaign, IL; Jackson Campbell of Champaign, IL; Beau (Stephanie) Goodwin of Charleston, IL; and Madison Goodwin, of Charleston, IL; and eight great-grandchildren: Hudson Campbell of Charleston, IL; Tenley Campbell of Mattoon, IL; Tessa Tomblin of Shelbyville, IL; Presley Campbell of Mattoon, IL; Audrey Campbell of Charleston, IL; Tatum Tomblin of Shelbyville, IL; Khiry Campbell of Mattoon, IL; and Mollie Goodwin of Charleston, IL. A private family service will be held. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Oakland Hindsboro Charitable Foundation or Landmarks, Inc. of Oakland, IL.
