Dalton Dean Corning, age 33, of Mattoon, IL, formerly of Newman, IL, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center while surrounded by his loving father and siblings.
Dalton was born December 5, 1990, in Urbana, IL, to Phillip Lawrence Corning and Deanna Derby Corning. He began a loving and supportive relationship with his girlfriend Heather Boehm on March 26, 2023; she survives. Dalton had a fierce passion for cars and other vehicles of all kinds. He was a sports enthusiast and a die-hard fan of Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors. He also found joy in many other hobbies and interests such as Pokemon, Hot Wheels, video gaming, and shoes. Dalton had many cherished activities and traditions with his father such as attending car shows, The Newport Hill Climb, The Covered Bridge Festival, and thrift shopping. He spent many days enjoying the outdoors hiking, fishing, and turtle watching, most recently at Douglas-Hart Nature Center, either with his girlfriend or his father and nieces. Dalton had a kind heart and was endlessly proud of his family and friends. He never missed a moment to share it to the world. He loved fiercely and wanted to offer all he could to help anyone in need, even a complete stranger on the street.
Dalton is survived by: his father: Phillip Corning of Newman, IL; sisters: Megan Coombes of Charleston, IL and Shelby Cleland (Duffy) of Oakland, IL; a brother: Austin Coombes of Mattoon, IL; grandparents: Sandra Burns Anderson (Rick) of Metcalf, IL, and Wayne Dean Derby (Patricia) of Villa Grove, IL; eight nieces, two nephews, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother: Deanna Derby Hollingsworth; and his grandparents: Allyn and Loretta (Blotniki) Corning.
A Celebration of Life will be held for all to attend on June 30, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Hume Community Center. We welcome visitors to wear their favorite team jersey and share memories of Dalton. For those who wish, memorials in Dalton’s honor may be made to The Haven, 1813 Western Ave., Mattoon, IL 61938.
