Carson Lee Hanner, age 82, of rural Kansas, IL, passed peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Carson was born August 29, 1942, in Tuscola, IL, to Russell Alden and Bertha Louise (Hance) Hanner. He married Judith Bails on April 29, 1962; they later divorced. He was a lifelong farmer and was a proud supporter of the Oakland and Kansas FFA chapters. He was also president of the Central Illinois Ditch Riders Snowmobile Club, a Multiple Sclerosis Snowmobile Tour Guide, and a member of Illinois Sporting Clays. He loved fishing, snowmobile riding, and reading westerns. His greatest joy was his family, and he loved spending time with them. One of his most treasured traditions was spending two weeks in Canada every year with his children and grandchildren fishing on Lac Seul.
He is survived by three daughters: Lynn (Jim) Holland of Mason, IL, Lori (Jack) Turner of Oakland, IL, and Diane (Joel) David of Oakland, IL; a sister: Nina Sue Camp of Kansas, IL; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and long-time companion: Margaret “Peggy” Finson. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Kansas Christian Church. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Shields Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials in Carson’s honor may be made to the Oakland FFA or donor's choice.
