Carolyn Sue (Martin) Hanner, age 83, of Oakland IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at her home.
Carolyn was born January 25, 1941, in Tuscola IL to Curtis Martin and Mallie Irene (Wykoff) Martin Walker. She married Hershel Max Hanner on February 5, 1960; he survives.
Carolyn is survived by two children, Jeanette Babbs (Brian) of Charleston IL and Jay Hanner of Charleston IL. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Kyle Babbs (Jean Hills), Tyler Babbs (Natalie Strickland), Mac Edmonds, and Mallie Hanner; and three great-grandchildren: Brady Babbs, Kasey Finley, and Lacee Finley. Carolyn is also survived by a sister, Daylann Kuhn (Gary) of Fayetteville, Pennsylvania; two brothers: Tony Martin (Connie) of Wisconsin and Steve Martin (Peggy) of Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Linda Andrews, and a granddaughter Heather Nicole Babbs.
Carolyn was a lifelong resident of Oakland and member of the Oakland Christian Church. She spent many spring days in the woods successfully hunting mushrooms. Carolyn loved having her family with her at their many “get togethers” and she prepared wonderful meals for the enjoyment of those in attendance. While Carolyn was not an avid sports fan, she was a very enthusiastic supporter of any event in which her grandchildren were competing. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and she was their beloved Grandma. She very much enjoyed a competitive game of cards. Her friends and family experienced her kindness and describe her as caring, thoughtful, considerate and loving.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland IL. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
