Obituary for Billy Leon Chandler
Billy Leon Chandler, age 85 of Oakland, IL passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care. Billy was born August 27, 1933 in East Oakland Township to Sherman William and Alta Ida (Sipes) Chandler. He married Joy Mae Smith on August 27, 1955 at Oak Grove Separate Baptist Church, and they enjoyed 63 wonderful years together. She survives. Billy was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War, and he was a past member of the Oakland V.F.W. Post. Billy was also a member of Oak Grove Separate Baptist Church, the Ansar Shrine Temple in Springfield, IL and the Oakland Masonic Lodge #219. He was a train enthusiast and worked as a trainmaster for many years. He loved hunting and fishing, and enjoyed watching and playing sports. Billy was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his wife; two children: LaDonna (Roger) Webb of Carbondale, IL and Roger (Shelly) Chandler of Springfield, IL; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Oak Grove Separate Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
