Obituary for Betty Ellen Harmon

Betty Ellen Harmon, age 85, of Oakland, died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Paris Community Hospital. Betty was born November 29, 1925 in Edgar County to Arthur and Zella (Conley) Harmon. She farmed all her life on her family’s farm and also worked at the Kansas State Bank for forty-two years, where she began as a teller and worked her way up to Executive Vice President. She was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, the Nifty-Fifty club and Edgar County Farm Bureau. She loved golf, bowling and camping. She is survived by several cousins, including Marcela Coy of Chrisman, IL, Wanda Vestel of Tuscola, IL, Edith Nelson of Punto Gordo, FL, Jane Piper of Springdale, AR, June Popovitch, Judy Weddle of Marion, IL, Shirley Brauninger of West Frankfort, IL, Robert Jones of Marion, IL, Bill Jones of Dow, IL and Earl Jones of Paris, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents and a cousin, Louise Kimmett. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery near Kansas. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland United Methodist Church or the Oakland Library in care of the funeral home.
