Obituary for Betty Anglen
Betty Jane (Hemingway) Anglen, age 90 of Hume, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Betty was born July 7, 1921 in Arcola, IL to William and Ina (McBride) Hemingway. She married Roy Edgar Anglen on September 15, 1944 in Miami, FL. She and her husband retired to Hume in 1957 after her husband’s retirement from the Navy. She was a member of Women’s Club, Hume American Legion Post #369 Auxiliary, Homemaker’s Extension, Ladies Aid, 8 & 40, Garden Club, and PTA. Betty also attended the Hume Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for over thirty years. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and Pleasant Meadows Christian Village volunteer and also wrote for the Hume Recorder and Newman Independent. She and her husband were inspired to begin the U.S.S. Henley reunion in 1968, and she was the coordinator of the event for 44 years. Betty loved flower gardening, boating, volunteering and helping others, and especially loved having her grandchildren around. She is survived by a son Don (Susie) Anglen of Hume, IL; a daughter, Patty (Gene) Miller of Hume, IL; two sisters, Jenny Powell of Champaign, IL and Elaine Apple of Oakland, IL; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers and four sisters. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.at Krabel Funeral Home in Chrisman. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Young America Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Hume Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
