Annette Louise (Burtner) Duzan, age 78, of Casey, IL and formerly of Oakland, IL, died May 5, 2025, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.
Annette was born November 10, 1946, in Charleston, IL, to Charles Thomas and Mary Lou (Placier) Burtner. She married Darrell Allen Duzan on December 28, 1965; he preceded her in death in 2018.
She is survived by three children: Jessica (Leroy P.) Duzan Johnson of Casey, IL; Darrell (Amy) Duzan of Arthur, IL, and Darin (Michelle) Duzan of Orland Park, IL; five grandchildren: Ty Duzan, Max Duzan, Brittney Gilbert, Dylan Duzan, and Lucas Duzan; and a brother: Charles T. Burtner of Martinsville, IL. She was also preceded in death by one brother.
Annette lived in the Oakland area for over 75 years. She was an elementary school teacher in the Paris school district and retired after over 30 years of teaching. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Arcola, the Paris Teacher’s Union, Oakland Eastern Star, Oakland V.F.W. Post 3637 Ladies Auxiliary, and the EUI Alumni Association. She was an avid reader, loved gardening and flowers, and enjoyed creating art and taking art classes.She especially loved spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland, IL. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials in Annette’s honor may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital for Children.
