Andrew “Andy” Raymond Ehrlicher, age 72, of rural Oakland, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at his residence.
Andy was born on December 11, 1942 to Edward A. Ehrlicher and Christina (White) Ehrlicher in Berwyn, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one half-brother, George Petru. Andy is survived by several cousins.
His childhood was spent in Warrenville, IL, and in 1961 Andy graduated from Wheaton Community High School where he was an honor roll student. A member of the National Honor Society, Spanish club and radio club, Andy also attended Boys’ State.
Andy, who was widely known by his radio handle “Old AE”, served in the US Coast Guard in the early 1960s, and he retired from the Illinois State Police as a Radio Technician.
Andy was a railroad enthusiast, making yearly trips to Lexington, KY to ride a steam train to Chattanooga, TN. He was a member of the Chicago & North Western Historical Society, the Union Pacific Historical Society, and the Defend Piatt and Douglas Intervention Group.
